Our last event in the village hall was all about the history of Rugby School and the sport of Rugby. Our guest speaker was Jenny Hunt, archivist and museum curator from Rugby school. Jenny gave a comprehensive talk and slide show on both days about the school and how the sport of rugby began and developed. The talk was followed by numerous questions from the floor.
Rugby school has their own museum and guided tours of the impressive school buildings and the museum are available on Saturdays. To arrange a tour, you can visit their website at www.rugbyschoolshop.com contact them on 01788 556169 or email at
Our event in JUNE – Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th – “Gilmorton Memories” We were looking at getting a few village residents in a group discussion to talk about their memories of Gilmorton.
Several have initially expressed interest, but none are able to fully commit. We feel we cannot run under these doubtful circumstances and as such this event is cancelled. We are looking at arranging an alternative, but this is still in the planning stage but if this new plan does not come to fruition, then there will be no event at all in June. We apologise for this but it’s out of our hands. As soon as we have confirmation one way or the other then it will be announced.EPTEMBER – To coincide with National Heritage week we are joining forces with Gilmorton church.
Heritage Week is held nationally by museums and history related groups and organisations and entry is free for visitors. The event will be held in the church itself and will be open from Sunday 15th. All opening dates and times will be confirmed nearer the event.
NOVEMBER – Wednesday 11th only – “Polish Settlement Camps” Bozena Kunzewicz will be a guest speaker on the Wednesday morning ONLY and will give a talk on the Polish settlement in the UK and especially the displaced Poles after the war in camps such as the one at Husbands Bosworth.
